Wow, this book really out did my expectations by a long shot. I'm not usually massive fan of contemporary romances because the plot is often lacking and the characters just plain annoying.
This book banished all of those worries from the first page! I immediately fell in love with Midge and her sassy comebacks (man, i wish i had her wit). Midge is the definition of a strong-willed and hardcore woman- her independence is beautifully demonstrated throughout the book and boy, does she know how to stand up for herself! (but seriously though, how is she even able to resist Brody- I would have swooned into his arms after approximately 0.001 seconds of seeing him.
Brody is the kind of man every. single. girl. in the WORLD would want for herself. He is determined to have Midge for himself and he can't be deterred from his girl even when she does turn him into a multi-colored hulk at one point (if that doesn't make you want to read the book, I don't know what will). He is persistent, beautiful and has good intentions in everything he does, plus he falls in love with Midge due to her personality, intellect and heart- not due to her looks (though he is slightly obsessed with her freckles).
I absolutely adored this book- it made me laugh out loud throughout and kept me hooked from beginning to end. This isn't some sappy romance that you have read thousands of times before- it has a constantly developing plot and complex main AND side characters that you will fall in love with (you'll find yourself wanting to strangle some she-devils though- be warned!) The author has thought up a brilliant new and original idea and she carries it out wonderfully.
For me, writing style of the author is the difference between a 2 and 5 star because I can never handle it when authors create terrible voices for the characters or sets the tone terribly or is just plain BAD at writing. I am so glad C.J Anaya has the style and voice she has- a romance that doesn't read as if it were written by a horny 12 year old? Count me in!
MYB is a book that would be suitable for young adults and adults-but don't get me wrong- there is some serious angst in this that left me screaming at the characters to just rip each other's clothes off already! But no serious themes so why are you still reading my review? Go read this gem of a romance and cry over the fact that you don't have a Brody for yourself!
Psssst... I was given an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review. Suckers!
